In June 2010, Bandemonium Music Society welcomed
Murray Hunter back as the group's musical director
and conductor. Murray first directed Swing Shift
from 1994-ish to 2003.
For the next 7 years, Murray played lead trumpet for
the band. Now, Murray is dedicated to developing
Swing Shift as a dance band.
Other interesting Murray factoids:
-- Studied trumpet privately with Jim Baierl, at Alberta College
with Dawn Hage, at the University of Alberta with Fordyce
(Duke) Pier, and the odd lesson with Domenic Spera and Bobby
Shaw.
-- Had lunch with the late, great Doc Severinsen who "taught
me how to breathe"
-- Currently principal trumpet in the Salt Spring Concert Band,
as well as lead trumpet in Swing Shift Big Band and Uncle Jim's
Blues Band.
-- Hates clinantro {it's true!}
