Swing Shift started up in 1993 as an informal communitygroup dedicated to keeping the swing era classics alive. Derrick and Wendy Milton direted for a short period -- followed by Murray Hunter until 2003 when the baton passed to Monik Nordine. Hunter returned to direct the group in June 2010.

The band's book includes many swing era charts drawn from Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Glen Miller and Woody Herman, as well as the work of more contemporary arrangers like Sammy Nestico, Prez Prado and Hugh Fraser.

Swing Shift has played for a number of local dances on Salt Spring Island, as well as gigs on Saturna and Mayne Islands and Comox, B.C.
